The title of King's Champion does not describe Celaena Sardothien's real allegiance. Winning the king's contest has placed her in his service, but she conceals her disloyalty while appearing to obey. Crown of Midnight, the second Throne of Glass novel, follows the strain of maintaining that position.

Secrets among allies

Celaena's search for justice reaches into her closest relationships. The prince Dorian, the guard captain Chaol and her friend Nehemia all come within the circle of suspicion. As their secrets threaten those bonds, Celaena has to decide where her loyalties lie and what she is prepared to defend.
